Metamora Engagement | Shay & Kyle
Shay and Kyle’s Metamora engagement was extra special—because Shay is a fellow photographer. When another creative trusts you with their own love story, it’s the highest compliment. Shay, of Shay Ramirez Photography, wanted someone to photograph her engagement and wedding day while she handled the editing in her own style (these ones are edited by me though). Since editing is the most time-consuming part, I was totally on board.
While we chatted through wedding details, she mentioned she’s been taking riding lessons at Freedom Acres Farm in Metamora and wanted to have their engagement session there. The moment I heard “farm” and “horses,” I didn’t hesitate. Love, animals, and golden light? Absolutely yes.
Horses, Heart Markings, and Real Moments
Freedom Acres Farm in Metamora is a hidden gem. I arrived to a cozy hobby farm filled with pigs, goats, ducks, cats, and of course—horses. We led the horses out into the field, and while they weren’t exactly professional models, they definitely brought the charm. One even had a heart-shaped marking on her forehead. Could you ask for anything more perfect for a Metamora Farm engagement session?
Shay and Kyle made every image look effortless, but wrangling horses while shooting is no small task. They have strong personalities and very little interest in posing! I was racing against the light (and a few stubborn hooves) while working up a sweat. But we laughed through the chaos and made magic in the golden light. Their connection was easy, genuine, and full of joy—those are the moments I live for.
Puppies and a Sweet Surprise Ending
Just as we wrapped up the last few shots, Shay and Kyle’s daughter casually asked, “Can we take a puppy home?” Shay and I froze mid-sentence and looked at each other like, Wait—puppies?! That was all we needed to hear.
Moments later, the farm owner’s daughter came walking out with four squishy, sleepy little pups, and we were instantly smitten. What better way to end a Metamora Farm engagement session than with unexpected puppy cuddles? We all held them in our arms snuggling them, and the joy on everyone’s faces was the perfect way to close the evening.
The best part? Shay and Kyle decided to bring one home after their honeymoon! We snapped a photo of their chosen pup laying sweetly on Shay’s cowboy hat, and I suggested they recreate that photo as he grows—same hat, bigger pup. He looked just like a tiny loaf of bread, so they jokingly started calling him “Loaf.” Whether the name sticks or not, I can’t wait to see what they officially choose.
Sessions like this are why I love what I do. Real moments, real joy, and stories that are so much more than just photos.
Why Metamora Farm Engagement Sessions are Pure Magic
There’s something extra meaningful about documenting love in a place that feels like home. A Metamora Farm engagement offers more than just a pretty backdrop—it brings life, warmth, and unexpected joy (like baby puppies!).
Whether it’s horses acting goofy or sweet family moments, this kind of session is the heart of what I love to do.
