Fort Pontchartrain Wedding | Melissa & Steve

Some weddings are extra special, not just because of the love shared between the couple, but because of the personal connections involved. Melissa and I were great friends in high school—we both played the clarinet in band and stayed in touch online after graduation. When she reached out to see if I could photograph her wedding, I was beyond thrilled. Not only did I get to capture her special day, but it also felt like a mini high school reunion with some old friends in attendance.

A Historic Fort Pontchartrain Wedding Venue

Melissa and Steve chose Fort Pontchartrain Hotel in Detroit for their wedding, a venue rich with history. Originally opening its doors in 1965, the hotel stands on the site of Detroit’s first permanent French settlement, Fort Pontchartrain, later known as Fort Detroit. Over the years, the building has seen multiple transformations, and today, it stands as a beautifully renovated Wyndham hotel, blending modern luxury with the city’s historic charm.

Stunning Views of Detroit and the Ambassador Bridge

One of the most breathtaking aspects of their wedding was the incredible view. From the venue, guests could take in stunning sights of the Detroit River and the iconic Ambassador Bridge. The floor-to-ceiling windows provided the perfect backdrop for Melissa and Steve’s ceremony, adding a romantic and unforgettable ambiance to their vows.

A Day Filled with Love, Laughter, and Nostalgia

From the heartfelt ceremony to the lively reception, every moment of Melissa and Steven’s wedding was filled with joy. Being surrounded by old friends made the experience even more meaningful. Seeing Melissa so happy and in love was truly special, and capturing those moments felt like an incredible honor.

Why a Fort Pontchartrain Wedding is Perfect for Detroit Couples

For couples looking for a wedding venue that combines history, elegance, and breathtaking views, Fort Pontchartrain is a fantastic choice. Its rich past, stunning architecture, and prime location in downtown Detroit make it an ideal spot for a memorable celebration.

Melissa and Steve’s wedding was a beautiful reminder of how love brings people together—not just the couple, but also the friends and family who celebrate with them.
