Charming Marquette Wedding: A Weekend Adventure with Jillian and Nikki
This past weekend, I had the pleasure of traveling up north for a truly memorable Marquette wedding. Usually my family stays at home while I travel, however this time I was lucky enough to bring them along for the journey. This trip was extra special too! It was the first time my kids had been over the Mackinac Bridge and seen the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We stayed in the old iron mining town of Ishpeming, and got to visit the lakeside city of Marquette.
Morning in Marquette
The morning of their wedding, my family and I went up to Marquette to scout the locations we had talked about for their wedding photos. The weather was a beautiful 72F, the sun was shinning, and there was a light breeze. Perfectly set up for any wedding! First we drove to the Lake Superior shoreline to check out the Marquette Harbor Lighthouse. Just a short walk through the trees and we explored McCarty’s Cove. My kids loved playing on the rocks on the beach. Then we stopped for brunch at this delicious restaurant called Third Street Bagel. Definitely check them out if you get a chance! From there we walked around downtown Marquette checking out some of their shops. Once we had some Yoop-Phoria froyo, it was time to head back to our house to get ready.
Ishpeming AirBNB Wedding Ceremony
Jillian and Nikki had found a gorgeous, historic AirBNB in downtown Ishpeming. It was the perfect venue for their ceremony since most of their guests could stay in the large house. The house is so full of character too, it was easy to see why they chose it! With their good friend as an officiant, the ceremony took place in the front yard of this charming house. They had 20 of their closest friends and family gathered to witness them exchange vows in an intimate ceremony.
Black Rocks: A Marquette Wedding Backdrop
Afterward, we made our way to the Ore Dock in Marquette for family photos. As I was taking the photos a strong wind picked up. I looked back over my shoulder and realized that a storm front was about to roll in. Then temperature dropped by 20 degrees, clouds were covering the sun, and it was starting to get misty. Quickly I wrapped up the family photos so they could go back to the AirBNB to relax.
Once the family photos were complete, Jillian and Nikki, along with two of their friends, ventured to the Marquette Harbor Lighthouse on the Lake Superior shoreline. This iconic location was the perfect spot for capturing romantic and serene photos of the couple. As a result of the protruding black rocks and the dramatic weather, the images took on a moody feeling. Furthermore enhancing the natural beauty of the Marquette landscape.
As a Marquette wedding photographer, this experience was a true delight. The combination of historical charm, stunning landscapes, and the couple’s love made for an unforgettable weekend. Jillian and Nikki’s wedding was a beautiful reminder of why I love what I do.
