Last weekend the Jack Town Rollers hosted the Flint City Derby Girls for their 2011 home opener. Now the last time JTR played Flint they kind of had their butt handed to them (the score was +300 to 40 something…or close to that). But we’ve had a year to practice, to build our strength and perfect our skills. While we still lost (145 to 99) the difference was night and day. Our girls skated hard and strong, and put up a great fight!
For those of you who don’t know, I am a multi-talented photographer and in my spare time I’m on a roller derby team, The Jack Town Rollers! It’s a brand new team started up in January so we were invited to take part of the annual Rose Parade here in Jackson. Being as competitve as all of us girls are we set out with the goal of winning Best Float, and we sure came close…third, but not bad for our first time float building!!
I’ve decided that my schedule wasn’t jam packed enough and decided to pick up the new revived sport of roller derby! I’ve joined The Jack Town Rollers, skate name Miss Mae Hurt. I haven’t been on skates since I was the ripe young age of about 12, so after much shaking, falling, and almost-splits, I came to the conclusion that my skates and I needed a proper introduction…a photo shoot.
