It’s because of clients like these two that adore being an Ann Arbor pet photographer. These senior gals were excellent, well-seasoned models. The treats I had might have helped a little with that, but even when they were all gone they still listened like angels. We met up in their backyard, which had the most gorgeous landscaping, and they loved traipsing through the shrubs. Becky and Jodi were naturals in front of the camera and their aged faces added so much character to their portraits. Becky was the more independent one, she went exploring through the yard and couldn’t care less what her mom and I were doing. Jodi on the other hand was a lover, she followed the two of us around demanding attention and giving kisses. With those eyes it didn’t take very long before she got her way.
Puppy Sitting
A friend of mine asked me to puppy sit his 3 month old rescue, Kodiak, this week and of course I said yes! Seriously, who could resist a face like that?! Most women get baby fever, not me, I get puppy fever. So puppy sitting was the perfect solution to get my puppy fix without the lifelong commitment (I already have two rescued boys who are my world, and as much as I would love to save all the puppies, I know my limits).
After I got home from last Sunday’s pet portrait session, the light was still gorgeous so while we were having a potty and fetch break I decided to grab my camera and snap a few of Kodiak. He has me cracking up all the time! He’s very clumsy and floppy, most of the time he’s doing somersaults or tumbling over my other two dogs. I mean look at those ears, they say it all, he just as floppy as they are!
Detroit Zoo
Earlier this month I rented a lens for the Fourth of July holiday, it’s one I’ve been drooling over for awhile and just HAD to take it to the Detroit Zoo. Usually when I go to the zoo I don’t bring my camera and I remain present in the day, but this trip was just so I could play around with that lens. I have to admit it was fabulous, I just wish I would have had more time there so that means I get to schedule another day at the Detroit Zoo. The 70-200mm lens I rented was perfect for allowing me to zoom in on the animals without all the distractions that you typically see behind them for the most part.
It was a pretty hot day when I went so many of them were being lazy (I don’t blame them!), however I was thrilled when I came up to the rhinoceros exhibit and saw that they were being very active. Rhinos are my all time favorite non-domesticated animal, and getting to photograph them was so cool. They were covered in mud and scratching themselves on the wood around their exhibit. Happy rhinos for sure! After I came home I went to the Detroit Zoo website and saw they were doing a silent auction for an up close and personal rhinoceros encounter. The winner would get to hang out with the zookeepers and meet the two rhinos, Jasiri and Tamba! Amazing, but sadly I missed the deadline and the final bid was $750. Maybe next year!

Santa Pet Photos
As promised, I went back to Wright Brand Pet Supplies and took Santa pet photos. The Buster Foundation was there joining us and brought some of their most adorable, adoptable rescued pit bulls. If you’ve been following my blog for very long you’ll know pitties hold a very dear spot in my heart, so I was thrilled to be a part of the day and help raise money for the dogs in need.
Do you remember Milo from the Halloween pet photos? Well, him and his parents came back for Christmas. I can’t believe how much he’s grown in those two short months! Milo’s making great progress in his puppy training too; he’s learning how to sit, lay, and shake. Not too long and he’ll be running with the big dogs.
This adorable girl is Bobbie. She is just as sweet as can be. The whole time she was just hanging out in her crate, didn’t bark or whine, and gave little tail wags when visitors came near. She’s had a pretty rough start in life, she was found homeless on the streets in Flint, but Bobbie would make an excellent addition to the perfect home. If you’re interested in finding out more information here is Bobbie’s bio page on The Buster Foundations website. I am not personally involved with the rescue so all additional questions would need to be directed towards them.
Jones Family Photos
My parents have been married for 16 years and the last time they had professional photos done was at their wedding. How crazy is that?! Since I’m an Ann Arbor family photographer, I decided to give them a gift card for updated photos last year for Christmas. They’re lucky enough to live really close to Island Lake State Park so we chose the park for their portrait location. The funny part about that day was they fought me tooth and nail, trying every excuse in the book to get out of doing them; but good thing they raised me to be stubborn because I eventually got them out there. And once they saw the finished images they were thrilled! I designed Christmas cards for them to send out this year as well and every one of their friends called to tell them how cute they were. It’s so awesome to hear all the positive feedback they got on them and my parents liked their family photos so much they are talking about doing them every year (this Ann Arbor family photographer couldn’t agree more!). They also have a little surprise coming to them for the holidays this year, but I’ll have to wait and share that AFTER Christmas day.
