Earlier this month I rented a lens for the Fourth of July holiday, it’s one I’ve been drooling over for awhile and just HAD to take it to the Detroit Zoo. Usually when I go to the zoo I don’t bring my camera and I remain present in the day, but this trip was just so I could play around with that lens. I have to admit it was fabulous, I just wish I would have had more time there so that means I get to schedule another day at the Detroit Zoo. The 70-200mm lens I rented was perfect for allowing me to zoom in on the animals without all the distractions that you typically see behind them for the most part.
It was a pretty hot day when I went so many of them were being lazy (I don’t blame them!), however I was thrilled when I came up to the rhinoceros exhibit and saw that they were being very active. Rhinos are my all time favorite non-domesticated animal, and getting to photograph them was so cool. They were covered in mud and scratching themselves on the wood around their exhibit. Happy rhinos for sure! After I came home I went to the Detroit Zoo website and saw they were doing a silent auction for an up close and personal rhinoceros encounter. The winner would get to hang out with the zookeepers and meet the two rhinos, Jasiri and Tamba! Amazing, but sadly I missed the deadline and the final bid was $750. Maybe next year!
